Firstly, you need to understand exactly what we mean by lifestyle and why it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Weight loss is probably the most noticeable things people do when changing their lifestyle. There are, however, many other aspects to a healthy lifestyle. Your lifestyle is really the way you conduct your everyday living. There are many aspects of lifestyle that each of us can greatly influence. For example our diet, how we exercise, how much we sleep and rest etc. There are other aspects that we have less influence over. For example stress, recreation time etc. There are always lifestyle aspects that we cannot really influence ourselves without implementing a major change. For example where we live and to some extent where we work.Balance diet and exercise for a healthy lifestyle.

Managing our lifestyle is all about balance. We have to try to balance the various aspects of our life. We need to balance the amount of time we spend at work, with family and at leisure pursuits. We also need to balance what and how much we eat, how much we exercise, how much indoor and outdoor activities we engage in and how much sleep we get.

All of this may seem like it is a major juggling act and it only seems like that because it is. Yes, lifestyle balancing is not easy to do and does take patience and dedication in order to get it right. Of course, we rarely get it 100% correct but the main thing is that we at least make an effort and try to get the big items balanced. Once you get on the right track then maintaining the balance becomes the norm and you will wonder what all the fuss was all about.

The big question is “Where do I start?” To begin changing your lifestyle you should firstly try to understand what exactly is driving your current lifestyle. Sit down and make a list of all your activities. Divide them into categories e.g. indoor, outdoor, active, passive etc. Put the amount of time opposite each activity and you will quickly see a pattern emerge. You should see easily if you are not doing enough outdoor or active pursuits.
